Swimming Ostrich

Rescued Ostrich, George, has been filmed swimming in lake Baringo in Kenya's Great Rift Valley.

George was recently moved from Roberts' Camp on the western shores of Lake Baringo to a more natural environment on Longicharu Island's Ruko Conservation Area.

Ruko is a realtively new conservation area, gaining recent international press from the amazing Giraffe translocation, partly via barge, across Lake Baringo.

Having been moved to the island, when the translocation team left via boat, George decided to follow. It seems the ostrich took water translocation one step further than his new long necked island companions, and decided to take himself for a swim in the Lake.

Local fishermen, and the Ruko rangers coaxed George back to the island, and persuaded him to stay. George is not happily settled in the conservation area; although he does keep the rangers and island visitors entertained with his antics and friendly behaviour.
